Proficiency

Senior Proficiency Dates 2010.

This season Senior Proficiency for Sandon Point members will be conducted over two sessions, a “wet” proficiency session and a “dry” proficiency session.
This is to ensure compliance with Surf Life Saving NSW requirements, as well as to provide our active members a better opportunity to focus on all of the important life saving skills required to competently serve our community. We are lucky to now have an expanded team of trainers and assessors, who are keen to ensure every member feels both confident and supported when performing their duties as volunteers.
Please note also that the practice of splitting proficiencies into “wet” and “dry” sessions already occurs at some other Illawarra clubs.

1. The “wet” session will take place at the end of the first Nippers day:
Sunday 24 October 2010, approx 11.00am. It is advisable to bring along a wet suit, as it might still be a little cool in the water.
This will comprise:
Run-Swim-Run (SRC = 100 m Run x 100m Swim x 100 m Run in 5 mins or less; Bronze Medallion = 200 m Run x 200m Swim x 200 m Run in 5 mins or less)
And your choice of either a) tube rescue or b) board rescue
Geoff Smith will record your times, should you wish to participate in the hotly contested Senior Point Score.

2. The “dry” session will take place at the end of the second Nippers day: Sunday 7 November 2010, approx 11.00am, upstairs in the club house.
This will comprise:
Signals
Radio use
CPR - you will be practice on both 1 person and 2 person CPR on a manikin and demonstrate an awareness of introducing oxygen (and a defibrillator if Bronze).
All holders of the ARC need to do the upgrade, which includes the use of suction. Most members listed on the system as ARC award holders have been contacted and completed the upgrade. If you have not, please let us know.
Completion of both sessions is compulsory, in order to become proficient this season. You will need to be observed by our proficiency team. It will not be regarded as satisfactory to tell us “we did it the other day” or “I’ll do it with someone down at the club later” etc.
