If you are over 15 years and want to become an active patrol member you will be required to have a Surf Bronze Medallion. The 'Bronze' ensures that lifesavers are trained & proficient in surf rescue techniques, resuscitation and basic first aid.
If you are under 15 you can still be a Rookie patrol member and will be required to have a Surf Rescue Certificate (minimum age 13).
Patrol Duty As an active member of Sandon Point Surf Life Saving Club you will be required to carry out patrols at regular intervals. There are usually about 8 or 9 three and a half hour patrols to complete during the surf season (October - April).
Where do I get my patrol roster? The club captain or vice captain will issue it to you.
You will soon be able to view this season's roster which includes patrol dates and patrol member phone numbers at the MEMBERS section of this site .

What time do I start patrols? All patrol members should attend the beach 15 minutes prior to your patrol start time to prepare for the patrol start or change over. The patrol times are from 10:00am to 1:30pm (morning) and 1:30pm to 5:00pm on Sundays and Public Holidays.
What happens if I cannot do my rostered patrol? If you are unable to make your rostered patrol please arrange for a substitute and inform your Patrol captain prior to the patrol. If you do not have a substitute the club expects that you make up for the missed patrol. While it is not usually our practice the club does reserve the right to require an additional penalty patrol. You may also be ineligible for competition.
What do I bring to a beach patrol? It is suggested that you bring the following items with you:
Patrol uniform
Swimming costumes
Sun protection
Towel
Wetsuit (optional)
Food
Drink
Equipment Usage The equipment is there for the members' use and enjoyment. Some items are only for serious competitors and specialized purposes and will be marked accordingly. We are aware that accidents happen. If you are using any gear and it becomes damaged please inform the Gear Steward and write it in the patrol log so it can be repaired promptly.
