Due to the discovery of heritage items on the site of the Sandon Point Surf Life Saving Club refurbishment work have been delayed and will not be completed until 2012. To ensure the Surf Club is able to operate during the 2011/2012 swim season, Council has arranged for temporary public amenities, including toilets, to be located adjacent to the car park. Council has consulted with the Surf Club, the Aboriginal community and residents overlooking the car park before deciding on the location of these temporary facilities.

Surf life savers will continue to patrol the beach from a temporary location some 50 metres south of the Sandon Point Surf Club building. These facilities will be in place for the start of the swim season on 24 September.
